What a great ride we had out in West Coatesville w/ Frank this past Sunday! Beautiful riding country. Hilly, but we took it easy and had a nice ride. We had perfect timing, too -- found the gap in the rain. No rain on us. We got back to Frank's place and sat back in his garage overlooking the gorgeous valley we just rode through and no more than 5 minutes later, the rain started pouring. We couldn't have planned it better.
Come join our host, Frank Morrone, next time. We'll be doing rides out near Frank's several times a year. Keep an eye out for the next one.
Cheers,
k

911 Ride on the 10 Year Anniversary
Hey everyone, we're getting a bunch of Team Red folks together to do the 9/11 ride, sponsored by the YMCA of Chester County. Registration is only $20 (or $25 on the day of the ride), and no fundraising is required.
The ride is on September 11 in West Chester. Rides start between 8am and 2pm depending on your distance. Routes are provided for 8, 15, 25, 42, and 80 miles. And there are 1 and 5k walks as well.
Details provided on our Team Red Events page: http://teamredphilly.blogspot.com/p/events-rides.html#911ride
Rides start and finish from either West Chester (Airport Road) or Unionville (URA) - see ride maps here (at lower right of page). All 911 ceremonies and festivities are at the West Chester start/finish area.
Let me know if you're planning on doing the ride. I'll be riding the 40 mile loop out of the West Chester start/finish area - see route map here. This ride departs at 8am, same-day registration starts at 7:30am. You can choose any route you'd like, but I'd like to get as many Team Red riders together at the West Chester start/finish area as possible - and have groups doing the different distances together if we can.
Let's show our colors - wear your Red Rider or Tour de Cure jerseys!
Thanks,
k

8/21 Team Red Amish Ride!
Hey Everyone,
We're having a Team Red fun ride on Sunday, 8/21, at 10am, in Amish Country. Invite your friends. We're starting at Frank Morrone's place in West Coatesville. See our Training Rides page for details.
There are a lot of you doing Livestrong or the Lancaster Covered Bridges ride that day - I hope you all have great rides! We were hoping to have a large Team Red contingent at the Covered Bridges ride, but the registration closed early when they hit their rider limit - we'll be sure to add this ride to our ride calendar for next year.
For everyone who was not able to get involved with those rides, please join our ride - all abilities are welcome and we'll ride at a leisurely to moderate pace.
Frank Morrone sent me this a while back - these are his thoughts and Frank's excited about Team Red!

The Way I See It
O K guys I am a Type 2 Diabetic.
I am not proud of it.
The question is did I do this to myself or is there a genetic component?
I don't know and I really don't care.
What I do know is that I have a problem,
and that traveling down the road and arriving at the intersection of
'Self Pity' and 'Why Me'
will not do any good.
But what to do?
Do I continue to feel sorry for myself?
What will that solve?
Think about it.
If I do nothing except exercise the TV remote,
my glucose numbers will climb out of control
possibly to the point of loosing a limb,
or my eyesight
or worst of all my manhood.
It appears that I have a choice
either to slide into oblivion
or get off the couch
and get on my bike!
I chose the bike
and since being declared Type 2 Diabetic
my numbers have come under control
and I am down 40 pounds.
What we all have to remember is the simple fact.
The couch kills.
Hills are tough.
The bike is life!
Come on board... Team Red welcomes all Diabetics.

If you're interested in getting involved, please contact Kevin Horio at kevinhorio@yahoo.com. We're holding our kickoff meeting in September and we need leaders from all areas in the region and of all riding abilities. The only prerequisites are good intentions and a commitment to build Team Red!
